Originally the small Piazza Garibaldi served as a central parking lot, leaving little space for the social activities that should characterise a town centre. 'Alberimobili' (‘Moving Trees’) proposes a flexible new urban configuration, which allows the city and/or the inhabitants to free up or redesign the square to suit the constantly changing functions and needs, ranging from markets to theatrical and musical events to a shady place to protect one from the summer sun. In addition to the new possibilities there will continue to be space for the parking, which can vary from minimal – for example, as needed by the local hospital – to maximum capacity when serving the entire historic centre in the winter. The pots contain earth lightened by the use of expandable clay and a drainage layer, which allows the trees to be easily moved by one or two people.
