House of Architects in Florence

The new building for the Board of Architects does not turn inward, but instead opens up to the city and to the public. The building façade along Via Corridoni protects the piazza-garden that lies behind it from the traffic; from the street façade the volume becomes increasingly more transparent, finally emerging in the piazza as transparent PVC strips. The building’s permeable character is visible in section, conveying the various functions through its clear distribution of activities: commercial spaces, a library, a café and reception on the ground floor; the headquarters of the Board of Architects on the first floor; and that of the Foundation of the Architectural Profession and Works and the Multipurpose Room on the second floor.
