The campus in Sesto Fiorentino hosts a large number of students in a relatively compact space. The proposal seeks to lighten the large volumes by raising them slightly off the ground and perforating them at intervals with communal terraces. At the same time, a sense of recognition and unity is achieved by playing with coloured shutters and distinctive graphics, and through mixing the sizes of the units (which accommodate from 1 to 6 students). In order to avoid the long corridors typical of large buildings, the apartments are accessible by lateral outdoor walkways, which are found on both sides of the buildings and in some cases used as terraces. A single-level space hosts communal functions and connects the campus’s four volumes.
