The exhibition is entitled 'Uprooting', which can mean both ‘eradication’ and ‘roots that grow upward’. The theme, proposed for the Belgian pavilion at the Venice Biennial of Architecture, addresses both the uprooting of the new generation of designers and the loss of – until very recently – a recognisable national identity.
In the side rooms the country’s identity and characteristics are explored, while the central space is dominated by a representation of ‘eradication’: the roots of rising architects seeking new inspiration, with space below for the comments and observations of the young architects who were invited to participate.
