The competition requires to create a new venue for the NMAAD (Norwegian National Museum of Contemporary Art). Besides the exhibition areas, new art conservation labs, administrative offices, a library and the cafeteria/restaurant area have to be designed. The project consists in creating a single, large structure that would become a strongly iconic landmark within Oslo bay – a spatial container for artistic works and events capable of connecting cultural and public activities of the city. Inspiring elements are nature, man and nature's interactions, nature and art, Norwegian environment, landscapes and woods. A large, urban-scaled hall includes the two existing buildings of the old railway station – the most significant one currently houses the Nobel Peace Centre – and gives access to all the functions within the structure.
